From Ottoman Turkish چالنمق (çalınmaḳ, to be struck, (of an instrument) to be played, to be stolen),[1] from Ottoman Turkish چالمق (çalmaḳ, to strike, to perform music on, to steal), from Proto-Turkic *čal- (to hit, to make a sound, to smear),[2] morphologically çal- + -ın + -tı.
