šīpātum

Akkadian

Etymology

From Proto-Semitic *ŝVp- (tuft of hair). Cognate with Arabic شَعْفة (šaʕfa, a lock of hair) and Biblical Hebrew שָׂפָם (śɔp̄ɔ́m, moustache), probably formed from שָׂפָה (lip) + ־ם (-m, suffix). Compare also Arabic صُوف (ṣūf, wool).
