Etymology

From Proto-Mon-Khmer *kiiɲ() ~ *kiəɲ() ~ *kaiɲʔ (elbow). Cognate with Khmer កែង (kaeng) (as in កែងដៃ (kaeng day, elbow)) and Vietnamese cánh (as in cánh tay (arm)). For the loss of earlier *k(ʰ)-, see ʔaː¹.
