Etymology

Uncertain. Possibly reflecting a Proto-Indo-European *sḱeyr-o- (shine, reflex), whence also Albanian hir (heavenly grace), Proto-Germanic *skīriz (pure, lucid)[1] and Proto-Slavic *ščirъ (sincere, frank).
