Of the two ancient plural genitives of χεῖλος (kheîlos, “lip”) (uncontracted: τῶν χειλέων (tôn kheiléōn); contracted: τῶν χειλῶν (tôn kheilôn)), only the uncontracted is used in Standard Modern Greek: των χειλέων (ton cheiléon) as the plural genitive of χείλος (cheílos).
The other alternative for the genitive plural is the modern των χειλιών (ton cheilión) of the singular noun το χείλι (to cheíli).
