Inherited from Old Ruthenian до́брый день (dóbryj denʹ), from Old East Slavic добрꙑи дьнь (dobryi dĭnĭ), from Proto-Slavic *dòbrъ dь̏nь. By surface analysis, univerbation of до́брий (dóbryj, “good”) + день (denʹ, “day”).
