Etymology

Borrowed from French calibre, from Italian calibro, from Arabic قَالِب (qālib, mold), from Ancient Greek καλοπόδιον (kalopódion, shoemaker's last), from καλαπούς (kalapoús), compound of κᾶλον (kâlon, wood) and πούς (poús, foot).[1] Compare Russian кали́бр (kalíbr).
