куры фра
Russenorsk
Etymology
Inherited from Norwegian Nynorsk kor i fra (“wherefrom”), northern dialectal form of kvar ifrå. The origin of "ы" is not clear, because per Norwegian pronunciation the /r/ sound before /i/ in this case is very close to Russian /rʲ/, which would result in spelling with letter "и" (кури фра).
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /kʊrɨˈfra/ (Russian accent)
Usage notes
Despite the translations given by Maximov and Shergin, the real meaning of the phase was probably "where are you from?"
