сбыточный

Russian

Etymology

Formed as if from сбы́ток (sbýtok) + -ный (-nyj); сбы́ток (sbýtok) is attested only in Dal's dictionary, as a synonym of сбыт (sbyt, sale), which does not have the right meaning. (The lemma is derived from сбы́ться (sbýtʹsja, to be fulfilled), not сбыть (sbytʹ, to sell).)

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): [ˈzbɨtət͡ɕnɨj]

Adjective

сбы́точный • (sbýtočnyj) (comparative (по)сбы́точнее or (по)сбы́точней)

  1. (dated) feasible, possible (of a business deal)
    Antonym: несбы́точный (nesbýtočnyj)

Usage notes

Now found only in the expression сбы́точное ли де́ло? (sbýtočnoje li délo?, Is the deal on?).
