From Proto-Turkic *adï- (“to separate”).
Cognate with Turkish ayırmak, Azerbaijani ayırmaq Bashkir айырыу (ayırıw), Khakas азырарға (azırarğa), Kyrgyz айыруу (ayıruu), Turkmen aýyrmak, Uzbek ayirmoq, Yakut атыр (atır).
