From Proto-Finno-Permic [Finno-Volgaic] *orpa (a kind of relative: brother, sister, male or female cousin etc.). Akin to Moksha ърьвя (əŕvä). Other possible cognates include Finnish orpana, Kildin Sami вуэррьпенҍ (vuerr’p’en’).
