Etymology

Compare to Ukrainian шпаґа́т (špagát, twine), Russian шпага́т (špagát), in both cases borrowed from Polish szpagat, from German Spagat, from Italian spaghetto (thin twine). The particular sound changes in Rusyn are not explained, however.
