Old Armenian

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *drep-aneh₂ (sickle), by a popular and imaginative sense development due to the arched shape of the eyebrows. A close cognate of Ancient Greek δρεπάνη (drepánē).[1]

The sense “top, summit” is a semantic loan from Ancient Greek ὀφρύς (ophrús, eyebrow; brow of a hill).
