Probably from Proto-Indo-European *(s)libʰ-reh₂, and cognate with Proto-Germanic *slipraz (“smooth; slippery”), Ancient Greek ὀλιβρός (olibrós, “slippery”), though the cognates point to a *-b-, not *-bʰ-.
