Old Armenian

Etymology

From միայն (miayn) +‎ այր (ayr). Found only in the Physiologus, translating and calquing Ancient Greek μόνανδρος (mónandros). The reading միայնայր (miaynayr) is a conjecture by Marr, supported by ერთ ხოლო მამალი არნ (ert xolo mamali arn) in the Old Georgian version.[1]

      Baroyaxawsn asē zagṙawē, etʻē miaynayr (var. i miaworutʻenē) ē. Ew tʻē meṙani varužann, ēgn yayl varužan čʻhpi.

        Physiologus says about the crow that it is monogamous, and if the male dies, the female does not touch other male.
