Etymology
Borrowed from a word related to Classical Syriac ܒܒܓܐ (/bbgʾ/), ܦܵܦܵܐ (ppʾ /pāp̄ā/), Arabic بَبَّغَاء (babbaḡāʔ), بَبْغَاء (babḡāʔ), بَبَغَاء (babaḡāʔ), Persian ببغا (babğâ), بپغا (bapğâ, “parrot”). The immediate source of the Armenian is uncertain.
