Etymology
From Old Armenian սանտր (santr). Doublet of կենտրոն (kentron).
In Eastern Armenian, the form սանր (sanr) is adopted as the standard word and սանդր (sandr) is considered dialectal, by analogy with such pairs as ծանր (canr) ~ ծանդր (candr), մանր (manr) ~ մանդր (mandr), but this is etymologically unjustified.
