ביצי כינים

Hebrew

Noun

ביצי כינים / בֵּיצֵי כִינִּים • (betzei kiním) f pl

  1. Plural indefinite form of ביצת כינה (nit, egg of a louse)
  2. (Talmud) nits or some insect species

Usage notes

According to a Talmudic opinion, lices are only spontaneously generated and therefore can't have eggs. Because of it, nits must be considered as an insect species not related to lices. Alternatively, ביצי כינים in Talmud may refer to a insect species, which is not related to nits at all.
