From Vulgar Latin oclus (“eye”), from Latin oculus (“eye”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃okʷ-, *h₃ekʷ- (“eye; to see”). Compare Old Galician-Portuguese ollo and Old Spanish ojo.

Only attested in the plural. Corriente takes ⟨wlwyš⟩ to represent a Mozarabic wélyoš.
