Etymology
From Yiddish ליטע (lite), from Lithuanian Lietuvà (“Lithuania”) via a Slavic language. Cognate with multiple foreign names for Lithuania, (see Litva and Литва), but the reduction to "lita" is apparently specific to Yiddish.
