קורצשלאָס

Yiddish

Alternative forms

Etymology

Borrowed from German Kurzschluss, with שלוס (shlus) modified to the semantically unrelated שלאָס (shlos) by analogy of the O-U alternation as found in e.g. דאָרשט (dorsht) and German Durst.

Noun

קורצשלאָס • (kurtsshlos) m, plural קורצשלאָסן (kurtsshlosn)

  1. short circuit (an unintentional connection of low resistance or impedance in a circuit)

When leaving, he said that there is a short circuit in the wires of the plate and it cannot be fixed.
