Etymology 1
From Ancient Greek Ἡράκλεια (Hērákleia), which replaced the older name of the site, that was Κῠ́βῐστρᾰ (Kúbistra). Doublet of آراقلی (Araklı). This town was previously known also as قرامان ارگلیسی (Karaman Ereğlisi) or قونیه ارگلیسی (Konya Ereğlisi) to distinguish it from other places with the same name.

Etymology 2
From Ancient Greek Ἡράκλεια Ποντική (Hērákleia Pontikḗ), a city state founded by colonists from Megara, in Greece. The town was previously known also as بندرگلی (Bendereğli), from Byzantine Greek Ποντοηράκλεια (Pontoērákleia), a variant of the original Greek name.
