Borrowed from Arabic أَزَل (ʔazal), from Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾsl /⁠asar⁠/, “endless”), from [script needed] (ʾ- /⁠a-⁠/, “un-, without”) + [script needed] (sl /⁠sar⁠/, “head; end”, whence modern (sar)).
