Borrowed from Arabic أَزَل (ʔazal), from Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾsl /⁠asar⁠/, endless), from [script needed] (ʾ- /⁠a-⁠/, un-, without) + [script needed] (sl /⁠sar⁠/, head; end, whence modern سر (sar)).
