Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian اهل ایمان (ahl-i īmān), which is a Persian variant of the Quranic verse يَا أَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا (yā ʔayyuhā llaḏīna ʔāmanū, O ye who believe) by some Muslim scholars, especially via Persian translation of the Qur'an by Mirza Mahdi Elahi Ghomshei (1901–1973).
