From Middle Persian [script needed] (b’hl /⁠bahr⁠/, portion) with a common metathesis (as in سرخ (sorx) from Middle Persian [Term?] (/⁠suhr⁠/)). Also retained in the forms بهر (bahr) and بهره (bahra).
