Etymology
From Arabic ذَا ٱلْوَقْتَ (ḏā l-waqta, “[at] this time”). The final -i is the linking vowel that would frequently be inserted before another word due to the double-closed syllable in dilwaʾt, and which was eventually regarded part of the word.
