سخبر

Arabic

Etymology

From a monophyletic root س خ ب ر (s-ḵ-b-r) meaning “to be hefty”, “to be full grown”, “to hang down (from weight)”, so called because when the plant is fully mature the heads of which bend and hang down from weight. Related to and possibly an augmentation of the root س خ ب (s-ḵ-b) denoting a string or chain containing odoriferous plants that hang around the neck; connected to the notable use of lemongrass for fragrance as well as the hanging conception of the roots.
