Inherited from Prakrit 𑀲𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀡 (sajjaṇa), from Sanskrit सज्जन (sajjana, good man), from सन्त् (sánt) + जन (jána). Cognate with Hindustani ساجَن (sājan) / साजन (sājan), Marathi साजण (sājaṇ), Punjabi سَجَّݨ (saj̄aṇu), and Saraiki سَجَّݨ (sajjaṇ), سَجَݨ (sajaṇ).
