عَرْجُون or عُرْجُون • (ʕarjūn or ʕurjūn) m (plural عَرَاجِين (ʕarājīn))

  1. raceme, twig of a palm with fruits curved around it, palm-branch girdled with dates

    • 7th century CE, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 55:94:
      أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَسْجِدِنَا هَذَا وَفِي يَدِهِ عُرْجُونُ ٱبْنِ طَابٍ فَرَأَى فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ نُخَامَةً فَحَكَّهَا بِالْعُرْجُونِ
      ʔatānā rasūlu l-lahi ṣallā llāhu ʕalayhi wasallama fī masjidinā haḏā wafī yadihi ʕurjūnu bni ṭābin faraʔā fī qiblati l-masjidi nuḵāmatan faḥakkahā bi-l-ʕurjūni
      Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to us in this mosque and he had in his hand the branch of an Ibn-Ṭab date palm and he saw slime in the qibla of the mosque and he abraded it with the help of the twig.
