Etymology
From Greek λουφάρι (loufári), a form of γουφάρι n (goufári), γοφάρι (gofári), from Mediaeval Byzantine Greek γο(υ)μφάριον (go(u)mphárion), from Ancient Greek γόμφος (gómphos, “bolt, dowel, nail”) + ending -άριον (-árion).
