Inherited from Sanskrit मस्तक (mastaka, “the head, skull; the upper part of anything, top, summit”). Cognate to Sinhalese මත්ත (matta, “head, upper part”) and Pali matthaka (“the head, figuratively top, summit”). Doublet of މަތީ (matī) and މައްޗަށް (maccaṣ̊)
