Inherited from Sanskrit मस्तक (mastaka, the head, skull; the upper part of anything, top, summit). Cognate to Sinhalese මත්ත (matta, head, upper part) and Pali matthaka (the head, figuratively top, summit). Doublet of މަތީ (matī) and މައްޗަށް (maccaṣ̊)
