Etymology
Borrowed from Dravidian (compare modern Tamil குடாரி (kuṭāri, “axe”)).
Some linguists have suggested Proto-Indo-European *kl̥tḗr, with Latin culter (“butcher's knife”) as a cognate but this is very uncertain, since the word formation is not typical of an inherited word.
