Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀘𑀺𑀗𑁆𑀖𑀸𑀝 (*ciṅghāṭa),[1] probably of onomatopoeic origin similar to that of Sanskrit चीत्कार (cītkāra, “cries, noise”).
