Etymology
Inherited from Sanskrit द्विप्रहर (dviprahara), from द्वि (dvi) + प्रहर (prahara).[1] By surface analysis, दु- (du-) + पार (pār).[2][3] Related to Old Marathi 𑘟𑘳𑘢𑘰𑘮𑘰𑘨𑘲 (dupāhārī) / 𑘟𑘳𑘢𑘰𑘮𑘰𑘨𑘳 (dupāhāru). Compare Hindi दोपहर (dophar), Gujarati બપોર (bapor), Punjabi ਦੁਪਹਿਰ (duphir), Odia ଦିପହର (dipôhôrô), Bengali দুপুর (dupur).
