Inherited from Sanskrit *धूमान्ध (dhūmāndha), from धूम (dhūmá, “smoke, haze”) +‎ अन्ध (andhá, “blind”) (compare धूमाक्ष (dhūmākṣá)).[1] Compare Gujarati ધૂંધ (dhū̃dh), ધૂંધળું (dhū̃dhaḷũ), Hindustani دُھنْدْھ (dhundh) / धुंध (dhundh), Sindhi ڌُنڌُ / धुंधु, ڌُنڌارو / धुंधारो, Punjabi ਧੁੰਧ (dhundh) / دھُندھ (dhundh), ਧੁੰਦ (dhund) / دھُند (dhund).
