Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘰𑘚𑘲𑘪𑘰 (pāḍīvā), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑀸𑀟𑀺𑀯𑀬 (pāḍivaya, adjective), from Sanskrit प्रातिपद (prātipadá).[1]
