From Gaudi-Kamarupi Prakrit চারি (cari), from Sanskrit चत्वारः (catvāraḥ), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čatwā́ras, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷetwóres.
Usage notes
- Chiefly used in compounds in Standard Bengali, most notably চারিদিকে (caridike, “all around”).
