Inherited from Middle Bengali বহিঠা (bohiṭha), from Prakrit *𑀯𑀳𑀺𑀝𑁆𑀞 (*vahiṭṭha), from Sanskrit वहिष्ठ (vahiṣṭha, “best in carrying or transportation”), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *waźʰiṣṭʰas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *waȷ́ʰištʰas, from Proto-Indo-European *weǵʰ-isth₂-os, from *weǵʰ- (“to bring, carry, transport”). Cognate with Assamese ব’ঠা (bötha). Doublet of বহা (boha).
