Borrowed from Classical Persian معمولی (ma'mūlī), from معمول (ma'mūl) + ـی (-ī), from Arabic مَعْمُول (maʕmūl, “normal, usual”, literally “(that which is) done or performed”). Cognate with Hindi मामूली (māmūlī), Punjabi ਮਾਮੂਲੀ (māmūlī).
