Inherited from Prakrit *𑀲𑀻𑀳𑀮 (*sīhala); compare Pali Sīhaladīpa, obsolete Dhivehi އޮޅުދޫ (oḷudū). Doublet of সিংহ (śiṅho).
Usage notes
The term সিংহল is generally considered archaic, having been replaced by শ্রীলঙ্কা, but it is still used in some contexts.
