Borrowed from Classical Persian انجیل (injīl), from Arabic إِنْجِيل (ʔinjīl), from Classical Syriac ܐܘܢܓܠܝܘܢ (ʾewwangellīōn) (or another Semitic intermediary), from Ancient Greek εὐαγγέλιον (euangélion, literally “good news”). Compare Hindustani انجیل / इंजील (iñjīl), Bengali ইঞ্জিল (injil), Tamil இஞ்சீல் (iñcīl /iñjīl/).
