Etymology

Traditionally believed to be a corruption of ขามแก่น (kǎam-gɛ̀n), from ขาม (kǎam, “tamarind”) +‎ แก่น (gɛ̀n, “core; kernel; heart (of a tree); etc”), the name of a reliquary in the city, after which the city was probably named;[1] officially given to the city in 2340 BE (1797/98 CE); formerly known as บึงบอน.[2]
