From Proto-Tai *ɗwɯːᴬ (navel). Cognate with Shan လီ (lǐi) (as in သၢႆလီ (sǎai lǐi)), Tai Nüa ᥘᥤ (li) (as in ᥔᥣᥭᥴᥘᥤ (sáayli)), Zhuang ndw. Compare Proto-Hlai *Cuɾɯː (navel), Proto-Austronesian *puja ~ *pujek (navel, umbilical cord) (whence Paiwan pudek).
