From Pali taṇhā (“desire; thirst”), from Sanskrit तृष्णा (tṛṣṇā, “idem”), from which Thai ตฤษณา is derived. Cognate with Old Khmer taṇhā, Modern Khmer តណ្ហា (tɑnhaa).
