ผีฟ้า

From ผี (pǐi, “deity; god”) +‎ ฟ้า (fáa, “heaven; sky”); literally "god from heaven", "god of heaven", or "heavenly god".

ผีฟ้า • (pǐi-fáa)

1. (archaic, dialect) deity; god.

     ผีฟ้าเกลื่อนกลางหาว

     pǐi-fáa glʉ̀ʉan glaang-hǎao

     The sky full of gods.

   • เนาวรัตน์ พงษ์ไพบูลย์, เขียนแผ่นดินลาว:

     ผีฟ้าพญาแมน มาอารักษ์มิ่งลาวนิรันดร์

     pǐi-fáa pá-yaa-mɛɛn · maa aa-rák mîng laao ní-ran

     (literally) Come celestial gods and chief deities, to guard our beloved Laos eternally.

2. (archaic) monarch; sovereign.

     ผีฟ้าเจ้าเมืองศรีโสธรปุระให้ลูกสาวชื่อนางสุขรมหาเทวี กับขรรค์ชัยศรี ให้นามเกียรติ แก่พ่อขุนผาเมือง

     pǐi-fáa jâao mʉʉang sǐi-sǒo-tɔɔn-bpù-rá hâi lûuk-sǎao chʉ̂ʉ naang sù-kɔ̌ɔn má-hǎa-tee-wii gàp kǎn-chai-yá-sǐi hâi naam-má-gìiat gɛ̀ɛ pɔ̂ɔ-kǔn pǎa mʉʉang

     A monarch, the chief of Śrī Śodharapura City, granted his daughter, called Lady Sukhara the Great Princess, as well as the sword of glorious victory and an honorary title, to High King Pha Mueang.
