From Proto-Tai *ʔunᴮ (warm), from Middle Chinese (MC 'won, “lukewarm”). Cognate with Lao ອຸ່ນ (ʼun), ᦀᦳᧃᧈ (˙ʼun¹), Tai Dam ꪮꪴ꪿ꪙ, Shan ဢုၼ်ႇ (ʼùn), Ahom 𑜒𑜤𑜃𑜫 (ʼun).
