From เพชร (pét, “diamond”) + บูรณ์ (“full; perfect; complete”), literally "full (of) diamonds"; believed to be a corruption of the ancient name mentioned in inscriptions, เพชรบุระ (pét-chá-bù-rá), from เพชร (pét, “diamond”) + บุระ (“city”), literally "diamond city" or "city of diamond(s)".[1]
