From Proto-Karen *thɔʔᴰ (pig), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *pʷak (pig). Cognate with Eastern Pwo ထေဝ်, Pa'o Karen [Term?], S'gaw Karen ထိး (htö), Western Kayah ꤓꤛꤢ (htya).
