Learned borrowing from Pali paccuppanna (“existing; present”), from Sanskrit प्रत्युत्पन्न (pratyutpanna, “reproduced, regenerated; prompt, ready; present, existing at present”). Cognate with Khmer បច្ចុប្បន្ន (paccobɑn), Lao ປັດຈຸບັນ (pat chu ban), Thai ปัจจุบัน (bpàt-jù-ban).
