Etymology 1
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *w(y)a-t ~ wit (“to wear; to clothe”). Cognate with Sichuan Yi ꃢ (vit), Lolopo veixr (“to wear, to put on (clothes)”), Athpare वाट्मा (waʈma, “to put on clothes, to wear”), वाप्मा (wapma, “to wear”).
